Socktober – Funds for Catholic Mission

October is our Catholic Mission month during which we raise funds to go towards Catholic Mission projects.

Fr Avinash explained that in 2025, over $1,000,000 was raised by Australian schools which was used to upgrade hospital facilities specifically to meet the maternity needs of young women in remote African regions.

St John’s celebrates and supports Catholic Mission with a Soctober, Crazy Sock Day and Coin Line.

Students were encouraged to wear Crazy Socks and bring along coins to add to the Coin Line as a donation to Catholic Mission.

Commencing with a whole school Mass, classes then took turns to add their contributions to the Coin Line which was in a world map design.

This is a wonderful way for everyone in our community to be involved in focusing on, and reaching out, to those whose lives are less fortunate than our own.

Total funds raised: TBC

Funds this year, among other projects, are in support of a new primary school – St Peter’s Nyamikuta –  which is being built in remote Malawi where school is not a given for children due to distance, cost, and resources required to attend school.
