Following the Premier’s announcement yesterday of a further extension of the current lockdown and additional restrictions being imposed, we acknowledge that this continues to be a challenging time for our school community.

We appreciate your support during this time as we all do our best to stay healthy, safe and positive. Remote learning will continue. Please be kind to yourselves, complete your child/children’s work around your work day if need be, take a break and do something fun when needed.

For those families requiring on-site supervision for their children, please note that work permits have been re-introduced and there is an updated form available on the Victorian Government website.

We are here to help but we are also governed by the current restrictions so please email your child’s teacher to discuss any concerns, or if unsure of who to contact, give the office a call. Ph: 03 59971653

A list of staff contacts is provided in Letters to Parents as emailed regularly.

A First Eucharist Workshop, for 2020 and 2021 candidates and their parents, will be held this Thursday,12th August, at 7pm via Zoom.

Mrs Bernadette Hance and Mrs Leonie Hester will host this Workshop during which candidates will be asked to confirm their commitment to the preparation of their First Eucharist.

Families will be  provided with a link to join the meeting via Seesaw or an email.

We are so pleased that families and staff have embraced technology to allow us to meet and continue preparations towards candidates receiving their sacraments this year.

Last week, even with the threat of adverse weather, the Senior students took part in the House Athletics Carnival. There was great team spirit within Houses with House Captains encouraging all participants. Despite the developing rain and very cold conditions, the Seniors managed to complete all their events however the Junior competition, scheduled for the afternoon, was postponed.

It is hoped to reschedule the Junior Athletics events as soon as possible.

The Premier’s announcement yesterday, that Victoria’s lockdown was being lifted for regional Victoria was welcome news for many. However, being in the Metropolitan zone, St John’s School will remain closed and Remote Learning will continue until Thursday 12th August or as otherwise advised.

As outlined last week, please remember we are here to support students and their families and will continue to provide learning opportunities via Seesaw and with regular small group Zoom Meetings with class teachers. We appreciate the efforts of our staff and the additional commitment of our families towards their children’s learning.

On-site supervision is limited to conditions as outlined to families previously. Please advise the school office to any changes in your circumstances.

Communication with families will continue via email, Operoo and Seesaw.

Due to current restrictions, our Parent Teacher Interviews will be held via Zoom at your scheduled time.

With Remote Learning and restrictions being a regular part of school life it is even more important that all families give priority to this chance to share and follow-up on their child’s learning.

These interviews are an important opportunity in tracking your child’s progress and any challenges being faced both at school and at home. Parent Teacher Interviews provide opportunities for families to give feedback and information regarding their child’s learning and wellbeing which is invaluable to teachers in supporting students’ school experiences.
